We have started going back to the gym. It's actually fun in a masochistic way. ;op
Well, I have a subscription to Yoga Journal and I never find time to read the magazines so I am way behind. But now that I go to the gym, I read on the stairmaster and on the elliptical, which is cool and makes time seem to go faster.
There was one article in the magazine that I was reading last week (I believe that it was the February issue) that was talking about growing older. A big thing in the Yoga practice is the practice of acceptance. So, of course, when it comes to aging, practicing acceptance is a big thing... a hard thing to do but a big thing nonetheless.
Well, it reminded me somewhat of my hubby. He is the outmost master of acceptance. When he was diagnosed with nephropathy at the age of 16, he ended up accepting it. Maybe there was a little period of rebellion. Definitely, though, it taught him to enjoy life while he could. His life expectancy back then was supposed to be very short. Thankfully science evolved enough by the time his kidneys gave up on him that he could go on dialysis and for *only* 4 hours at a time (it was 8 hours when he was diagnosed so he thought that he couldn't hold a job when his kidney would fail) and he was eligible for a transplant (which was not the case at the time of diagnosis).
His parents used to say (and still say, I believe) that Jeff is not growing older but growing younger. He apparently was a very serious child and, the more he ages, the more he plays... that doesn't mean that he is childish or irresponsible... Oh no.
Thankfully, Jeff has been teaching me those invaluable lessons: Enjoy life. Accept whatever the situation is. And, you know what? That may be the fountain of youth in a nutshell.
Thanks for all the lessons, Jeff!
