It does bother me - Originally posted 4 May 2006

My parents are selling their house. They have an offer and, provided that the lady can get the mortgage, it looks like it will go through. My parents will be moving to a neat condo pretty much in the same neighborhood as they have lived all these years. They have had the same house for close to 40 years. So it's a big deal for them.

So I was back home a few weeks ago and everything was fine and groovy. I distinctly remember telling my husband that I will feel weird not being there to help my parents move, as I know how much work that is... but I live way too far so I don't have much choice.

Well, I guess that it does bother me and is on my mind because I dreamt last night about my parents. My mom was putting stuff in this iddy-biddy-tiny moving truck and then she closed the door of the truck and it almost fell on her. My dad was there in time to prevent her from having the truck fall on her. I was like there but paralyzed... I couldn't do anything. The truck was too small (remember that it's a dream) to have really hurt my mom but my heart was still racing.

And then I followed my parents back inside the house and there were all these strange people in the house, sitting there, waving at my parents, asking them when they'd be done. It felt weird. It doesn't bother me that they are selling the house because I haven't felt attachment to that house since I moved out so many years ago... but it was odd seeing different people in my parents' house.

This is one of those times when being an only child sucks. I don't have a sibling closer to my parents who can go help. Thankfully, my in-laws, who are like the best people on this planet, have offerred to help my parents. Actually, it's more like they are demanding to help my parents. ;o) That is such a relief!

From Akilah:
It is hard to be so far away from parents. That's the biggest problem with some careers - you pretty much have to move away.
