I had a breakthrough! - Originally posted 16 October 2006

Last Friday, a bunch of us got together at Deano's for the monthly Il Troubadore performance there. There were more of us to watch, though, which was great.

Breakthroughs are like an "Aha!" moment, right? Well, I had one on Friday. Normally, when I dance, I always wonder whether my personality is coming through. Everyone says that this is an important aspect of dance and all but I was never sure whether I was doing it or not. I had a feeling that I wasn't but I had no idea how to get my personality to come out. How does one go about doing that?

Well, maybe it was all the great people being there. Maybe it was the awesome music (but then again Il Troubadore's music is always awesome). Maybe it was the vino. Maybe it was Stray Cat Strut. Maybe it was all the little silly exercises that I've been doing as of late, following great advice from a friend. Maybe it was just a matter of time. Who knows?

But the bottom line is that, on Friday, I had no doubt: my personality had come through!!!! Yeah! Finally!

And, thankfully, I think that there is no going back now! It's like the Peyton Manning commercial for Gatorade Rain (I love that commercial but I may be biased since I love football and live in Indy): he breaks through this envelope... you can see the whole commercial here: www.youtube.com/watch

So it very much feels like that. Which is an awesome feeling!

I don't bother chasing mice around
I slink down the alley looking for a fight
Howling to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry,
"Wild stray cat, you're a real gone guy."

I wish I could be as carefree and wild,
but I got cat class and I got cat style.
